One of the best baseball prospects in North Texas – and the son of an A&M legend – transfers to a new school

Jorvorskie Lane Jr. is transferring to a new school.

FORT WORTH, Texas — It’s not every day a high school baseball transfer draws attention. But Jorvorskie Lane Jr. is no average high school baseball player. And his dad was no run-of-the-mill athlete either.

Lane, the son of Texas A&M running back legend Jorvorskie Lane, has transferred from Fort Worth’s O.D. Wyatt High School to Grapevine High School, the defending Class 5A state champion.

Grapevine-Colleyville school district officials confirmed that Lane is enrolled at Grapevine High School.

The younger Lane, a senior catcher, is the ninth-ranked prospect in the latest Perfect Game rankings.

“Absolutely crushes the ball everywhere,” Perfect Game’s scouting report says. “.484-7-27 in 2024 PG play, .446-4-34 in 2023, same thing in the spring, promising defender behind the plate.”

Lane is currently uncommitted at the moment, though there’s a pretty good chance he’ll be drafted high enough in next year’s MLB Draft that college might not be a concern. But he was initially committed to his dad’s alma mater in College Station.

After coach Jim Schlossnagle left the Aggies for Austin, Lane Jr. decommitted from A&M.

Lane Jr. hit .588 with 57 runs batted in as a sophomore for the Wyatt Chaparrals, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He also stole 61 bases and compiled an on-base plus slugging percentage of 1.789.

His dad was a one-man wrecking crew at Texas A&M from 2005-2008, racking up 49 rushing touchdowns as a 285-pound running back. The elder Lane played three seasons in the NFL, playing with the Dolphins in 2012 and the Buccaneers in 2014 and 2015.
