
Volunteers across South Texas get together at Sumo Japanese Restaurant, aiming to distribute 3,000 Thanksgiving meals to seniors and the homeless in San Antonio.
SAN ANTONIO — Volunteers are putting their gloves and getting down to business to make sure no one goes without a meal for Thanksgiving.
Its all a part of Operation Turkey, which is providing 3,000 meals to those in need in San Antonio.
40 volunteers are expected to be here at Sumo Japanese Restaurant to smoke 200 turkeys to serve the community.
Volunteers are coming all over South Texas, from New Braunfels to Pearsall, and Helotes.
Some volunteer groups include the Blessed Sacrament Knights of Columbus, the Central Catholic Wild Dinner BBQ team, and the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.
Operation Turkey is a national program aiming to serve 50,000 meals.
In San Antonio, the goal is at least 3,000.
In addition to turkey, the volunteers will also prepare and pack all the Thanksgiving sides and fixings for delivery.
Volunteers are also making care packages made possible with donations. These meals will go to seniors and the homeless community.
Volunteers will be delivering the Thanksgiving plates on Thursday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.
