Orange police investigating potential arson attempt at CVS after finding a broken window, remnants of Molotov cocktail

While searching the scene, investigators recovered remnants of a glass container as well as a piece of cloth wick, arising suspicion of a possible arson attempt.

ORANGE, Texas — The Orange Police Department and the Orange Fire Department responded to an early morning fire at CVS on 16 Street in Orange Saturday.

Orange Fire Department Battalion Chief, Joe Mires, says the peculiar call came in around 2:20 a.m.

“In my 33 years, that’s the first time I’ve ever been toned out for a pharmacy fire. That’s not something we have,” said Mires. “I didn’t think it was a false call at all. So we we got out there, PD (Orange police) got out there before us and they were working on the front door.”

Mires says the glass to the front door of the store had been shattered, and white smoke still lingered inside the building

“When we got there, we had smoke Inside the building. I would say, medium smoke. It was white smoke and it wasn’t rolling or anything like that. Wasn’t any outside,” said Chief Mires.

Inside the store the only thing burning was a circular piece of the carpet, roughly six feet in diameter, and just 10 feet away from the door according to Chief Mires.

While searching the scene, investigators recovered remnants of a glass container as well as a piece of cloth wick, arising suspicion of a possible arson attempt.

The investigation is ongoing.
