Outdoor ice skating is coming to the Pearl for the first time, starting on Friday

San Antonio families now have another option to lace up some skates and go gliding through a winter wonderland.

SAN ANTONIO — In addition to its night markets, tree lighting party and other Christmas-season programming, another attraction is coming to the Pearl for the first time this week.

The popular downtown-area district said in a press release that a “dazzling outdoor ice-skating rink” will debut there the Friday after Thanksgiving, where it will welcome visitors looking to glide on the ice through the start of the new year.

The rink will be set up next to Stable Hall, in a Pearl atmosphere adorned by “twinkling lights, holiday music and joyful memories for all ages.” Friday is also when the district will have its own tree lighting celebration from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the switch set to be flipped on around 5:45 p.m.

Families will also have the chance to get a photo with Santa, listen to a story read by Mrs. Claus, enjoy live performers and ballerinas, and jam to a DJ in the evening.

You’ll need a ticket to hit the rink, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday and from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. during the week. It costs $20, which covers skate rental, and patrons will be able to enjoy the ice for up to an hour.

Children 12 and under will need to have an adult with them, and those as young as 5 will need an adult skating with them while on the rink. The rink will be open through Jan. 4.

Saturday brings even more holiday fun for San Antonio families at the Pearl with the first Taste of the Pearl Festival; the event will bring music, art, shopping and delicious bites.
