Over 100 firefighters respond to massive apartment fire in Medical Center area, SAFD says

Firefighters received the call around 11 a.m.

SAN ANTONIO — Over 100 firefighters responded to a massive fire at an apartment complex in the Medical Center Friday morning, San Antonio fire officials say.

Fire crews were called to a structure fire at the 4900 block of Medical Drive at 10:52 a.m. The building was later determined to be the Broadstone Medical apartments.

Upon arrival, firefighters say they saw heavy flames and thick smoke coming from the apartments and due to the size of the complex a second alarm was issued for the fire.

According to SAFD, the fire spread quickly affecting 12 apartments but they are unsure what floor the fire started on. Officials believe the units affected are probably a total loss due to the extensive damage.

Firefighters are currently still battling the fire as of 12 p.m. Friday.

Fire officials say three people suffered minor injures and two of them were sent to the hospital.

SAFD officials say the cause of the fire is under investigation.
