As she was being arrested in 2024, police said she had taken advantage of families during vulnerable moments as they sought to bury loved ones.
SAN ANTONIO — A local headstone company owner has pleaded guilty to theft more than two years after her arrest, according to court records.
Elena Moreno Sanchez, who owned Angelic Monuments, admitted to taking money from customers and failing to deliver promised services. Authorities say the case stems from incidents in which families paid for headstones that were never provided.
When Moreno Sanchez was escorted in front of cameras in March 2024, police said she had taken advantage of families during vulnerable moments as they sought to bury loved ones.
In one case cited by investigators, a family told police they paid $8,000 for a headstone but never received it.
During court proceedings, Moreno Sanchez testified that a series of issues contributed to the delays and failures to fulfill orders.
A judge sentenced her to six years in prison. She received credit for time already served.
Her attorneys said all victims involved in the case have since been repaid.
