
A paddleboarder in Galveston died despite rescue efforts after being pulled from the water on Saturday afternoon.
GALVESTON, Texas — A man died Saturday afternoon after being pulled from the water, according to the Galveston Island Beach Patrol.
Beach Patrol officials said they, along with Galveston EMS, the Galveston Fire Department and the Galveston Police Department, responded to reports of a paddleboarder in distress. Crews found the man near 94th Street and pulled him from the water shortly before 2 p.m.
First responders began CPR before the man was taken to UTMB, where he was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses told investigators the man had been paddleboarding for nearly two hours before the incident.
Officials said red flags were posted along the beach Saturday, warning of strong currents and large waves. Beach Patrol is reminding visitors to swim close to shore and stay within their abilities when out in the water.
The man’s name has not yet been released.
