HOUSTON — There were scary moments in the top of the first inning of the Houston Astros game against the San Diego Padres Sunday night.
With no outs and Fernando Tatis Jr. on first base for San Diego, Framber Valdez got Luis Arraez to ground softly to the right side. First baseman Christian Walker fielded the ground ball and tossed to second baseman Mauricio Dubón who was covering.
Dubón and Arraez collided at the bag and Arraez was on the ground for several minutes.
As several members of the Padres training staff knelt around Arraez, the medical team came out and carted him off the field.
Arraez was taken to Methodist Hospital for evaluation. According to the Padres, he’s conscious, responsive, and can move his extremities.
Here’s the play at first base.
It happened during the third game of the series. The Astros won the first two.
