She’s a 2-year-old Ibizan Hound and Jack Russell Terrier mix that loves attention!
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
This week’s Forgotten Friend is Palamino, a two-year-old Ibizan Hound and Jack Russell Terrier mix found as a stray and brought to the Humane Society in New Braunfels (HSNBA). She was first brought to the shelter in January and has been waiting patiently for someone to love ever since. Normally, small dogs are the first to get adopted and go quickly, so shelter staff aren’t sure why it’s taking so long for Palamino to find her match.
Ibizan Hounds are generally family-oriented, even-tempered and polite canines, according to the American Kennel Club. And Jack Russell Terriers are usually upbeat, lively, inquisitive, and friendly. The mix of the two breeds is a fabulous combination.
Palamino is looking for a loving home where she can be the center of attention as the only pet.
“She would thrive in a home where her humans are often around, making her an ideal fit for someone who works from home,” said shelter staff. “She has a big heart and loves to snuggle, making her a big lap dog at heart. While she’s generally sweet-natured, she may nip without warning, so her new family should be aware and patient with her as she adjusts.”
She would love for an active family to adopt her and give her a sense of belonging. She needs to work on gaining people’s trust so that she’s not as snappy in new situations.
“She has extreme barrier reactivity, so she snaps at things on the other side of doors, gates and fences,” said shelter staff. “This is something that can be worked on with the right training.”
Palamino is healthy, has already been spayed and is current on all her vaccinations.
She’s incredibly people-oriented and loves to play with toys, making her a perfect companion for someone who enjoys interactive playtime.
Palamino also loves human attention and adores going for walks. “She will literally bounce into your arms for affection,” said shelter staff.
She can jump super high too but beware that can act pretty awful when she’s on the other side of a gate or fence. But again, with the right training, this behavior can be modified.
You can submit your application for Palamino right here: https://www.hsnba.org/adopt/adopt-a-dog/.
Or visit the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area located at 3353 Morningside Drive in New Braunfels, call them at (830) 629-5287 or email them at GeneralInfo@HSNBA.org.

For whoever adopts Palamino, Lucy’s Doggy Daycare & Spa will be lending a paw by offering them a free “Glow Up” Day at the Spa, which includes a massage therapy bath and Pawdicure. One of Lucy’s most cherished core values is to continue Lucy’s legacy of giving back to pups in need, as Lucy herself was a rescue!
If you’re ready to give Palamino the understanding and love she deserves, she promises to fill your days with love, playfulness, and companionship
Could you be the right person for this fabulous dog?

CLICK HERE to see what they need most. Two things they really need right now are potty pads and peanut butter! They use the peanut butter to stuff puzzle toys. It gives the dogs something fun to do while they are stuck inside due to the cold. Just make sure it doesn’t have xylitol in it which is toxic to dogs!
As with all shelters, cash is always appreciated, since money comes in handy to pay the veterinary bills associated with saving all the animals in need.
