Panini releases new Stephon Castle Rookie of the Year card; Spurs announce new lead team surgeon

Panini America celebrates Stephon Castle’s NBA Rookie of the Year honor with new exclusive instant cards.

SAN ANTONIO — Panini America, the world’s largest sports and entertainment collectibles company, released instant cards featuring San Antonio Spurs‘ Stephon Castle to commemorate his 2024–25 NBA Rookie of the Year honors.

The card features Castle in his Icon Spurs jersey, with “ROY” across the card, and a photo of him with the ball in his hand.

These Castle cards are now available for a limited time and in limited quantities while supplies last. 

The price ranges from $9.99 and up, depending on the variation of the card. Cards are shipped to collectors within 20-25 business days after the ordering window expires.

Castle averaged a rookie-best 14.7 points, with 4.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 0.91 steals. He was also the first Spurs rookie since Duncan to rank top two on the team in both points and assists, while leading all rookies in total points (1,190), made field goals (423), total steals (74) and made 100-plus more free throws (249) than any other first-year player.

SPURS ANNOUNCE LEAH BROWN, MD, AS NEW LEAD TEAM ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEON

The Spurs announced Leah Brown, MD has joined the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) to serve as the team’s new lead orthopaedic surgeon. UT Health San Antonio is the official sports medicine partner of the San Antonio Spurs. Brown joins the Spurs expert medical team alongside Guy Nicolette, MD, who serves as the lead sports medicine physician.

“I am thrilled to join UT Health San Antonio and the San Antonio Spurs. As a former athlete and dedicated orthopedic surgeon, I recognize the importance of listening to patients and taking the time to understand their unique goals and needs —whether they’re professional athletes or adults starting a new fitness routine and experiencing knee pain,” said Brown in a release. “My goal is to deliver the same level of thoughtful, individualized care to every patient I see.”

David Schmidt, MD, will formally transition from his role as the Spurs’ Lead Team Physician to Physician Emeritus status after 30 years of distinguished service for the Spurs.
