Parents vigilant after attempted abduction near Hot Wells Middle School

Extra patrols surround Hot Wells Middle School after an attempted abduction of a 12-year-old. Police are actively searching for the suspect.

SAN ANTONIO — Extra patrols were added around Hot Wells Middle School after an attempted abduction was reported Monday.

As police look for those responsible, parents and neighbors near the school are concerned and more cautious since this has happened.

Picking up his two kids from school today, Raul Acosta is on high alert.

“My kids…anything…them being taken, it’s the worst thing I could think of,” Acosta told KENS 5.

Near Hot Wells Middle School, neighborhoods, and a resident who wishes to remain anonymous say they’re worried.

“I get scared because these kids still live in the neighborhood,” The neighbor said. “I don’t want to see anything happen to any of these children.”

On Monday, San Antonio ISD sent a message to families about an attempted abduction of a 12-year-old girl.

They say she was heading home from Hot Wells Middle School around two that afternoon.

Authorities say a man got out of a car near the intersection of Russi Street and Koehler Court. That’s when he started walking toward the victim.

SAPD says the 12-year-old started walking away fast. The suspect yelled at the child, grabbed her backpack – but she got away.

The school says the car involved was a silver four-door with a Lyft sign on the driver’s side.

“Yes, I am more cautious,” Acosta said.

More SAISD patrol units have been added to Hot Wells Middle School, along with Ball Elementary, Highland Hills Elementary, Schenck Elementary, Steele Montessori, and Highland High School.

This, as authorities continue their search for a suspect. This is an ongoing investigation.
