Parks & Recreation turning up heat on fun for your kids

From splash pads to action-packed camps, City of San Antonio Parks & Recreation is rolling out summer hubs across the city.

SAN ANTONIO — The official start of summer less than two weeks away and the city is turning up the heat on FUN for your kids!

From splash pads to action-packed camps, City of San Antonio Parks & Recreation is rolling out summer hubs across the city.

Starting June 14, all pools will be open citywide. Missing the early splash? Six pools have been open since Memorial Day.

“We’re hitting a busy time for us,” said Homer Garcia, Director San Antonio Parks & Rec. “We have six pools that are open already that opened Memorial Day weekend.”

But that’s just the start. Over 47 community‑center and school‑site camps for kids ages 6–14 are underway—and only about 70% full.

“Those are 47 opportunities for the community to find a camp nearest them they might be interested in,” said Garcia. “Primarily, schools fill up historically first.”

Programs are safe, structured, and packed with games, crafts, STEM, sports—and even reading time with San Antonio Public Library. Two meals are served daily.

“Our parks, our centers, they are safe, where we have a greater presence and use, that helps police itself,” said Garcia. “It’s a structured environment. When it gets hot… it’s great to be indoors and find relief as well.”

No pool? No problem, splash pads are open daily.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to connect and for families to continue to build on those core memories that makes parks so great,” said Garcia.

Register now on the city’s website or at your local community center before camps fill up.

Reduced fees are available.
