Parole denied for Selena killer Yolanda Saldivar

She has been in jail for the 1995 murder and was required to serve 30 years before becoming eligible for parole.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Parole was denied for Selena’s killer Yolanda Saldivar on Thursday afternoon.

The parole board said its decision was based on the nature of the crime.

“The record indicates that the instant offense has elements of brutality, violence, assaultive behavior or conscious selection of victim’s vulnerability indicating a conscious disregard for their lives safety or property of others, such  that the offender poses a continuing threat,” the decision reads.

The parole board also said it considers the 64-year-old Saldivar a continuing threat to public safety.

The parole process for the Tejano star’s former fan club president began six months before March 30, 2025, the date that she was parole eligible.

Court documents, offense reports, statements of protest and support, her criminal history and statements and information provided by Saldivar were all considered in the decision, the board said.

A panel of three people decided her fate, and a majority was needed in order to grant parole.

Her next review is set for March 2030.
