Partial scaffolding collapse causes emergency street closure in San Antonio, crews set to spend 12-15 hours fixing

The collapse was reported about 10 stories up at a building at the intersection Commerce Street and Soledad.

SAN ANTONIO — A partial scaffolding collapse was reported downtown, causing an emergency street closure Friday, the San Antonio Fire Department said. 

The partial collapse was reported about 10 stories up at a building at the intersection Commerce Street and Soledad. There was no one on the scaffolding at the time and there were no reports of any injuries. 

Photos from the scene show the mangled scaffolding from the partial collapse. 

The city said it will have to implement an emergency street closure in and around the intersection of Soledad and Commerce Street as the fire department responds to the emergency. 

Authorities said over the next 12-15 hours, crews will be working in the area to stabilize and then safely dismantle the the scaffolding.

Construction crews and engineers are coming in from Austin to assess the situation and put a final plan in place to safely stabilize structure. Unfortunately, officials said they are still an hour or two away as they are in rush-hour traffic.
