SAN ANTONIO — A passenger in a vehicle died in a fiery crash near Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston early Monday morning, according to San Antonio police.
Authorities say law enforcement from multiple agencies – including San Antonio, Terrell Hills and Alamo Heights – were all chasing the drive before the car slammed into a brick pillar around 1:47 a.m. on Harry Wurzbach, near the Army post.
Fort Sam Houston police arrived after the crash, and pulled both the driver and passenger from the burning vehicle, officials said. The passenger died at the scene.
Their identity has not yet been released.
The driver, meanwhile, was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center in critical condition and was determined to be intoxicated. Officials said they had also evaded a traffic stop 20 minutes before to the crash.
They’re expected to face a charge of intoxication manslaughter after the fatal wreck.
