A fatal collision at Culebra and Ingram roads left one dead and two hospitalized, sparking an active investigation into conflicting witness accounts.
SAN ANTONIO — A two-vehicle crash on the city’s west-side left one person dead and sent both drivers to the hospital Tuesday morning, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
SAFD said the crash remains an active scene, with crews initially reporting no hospital transports, though later updates confirmed both drivers were taken to University Hospital for treatment and one person died.
The collision happened at the intersection of Culebra Road and Ingram Road around 7:30 a.m.. An eyewitness told KENS 5 that the driver of a Honda Accord was in a lane designated to continue straight on Culebra but attempted to turn onto Ingram, colliding with a white Chevrolet. However, police say they are getting conflicting information from eyewitnesses about who may be at fault for the crash.
The impact caused the Chevrolet to catch fire, according to the witness. First responders were able to put out the flames.
The back-seat passenger in the Honda, a man in his early 60s, died at the scene. Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to remove the passenger from the vehicle. The driver of the Honda was transported to a hospital with a head injury. Police say the driver of the Honda may be have been a rideshare driver, which the officer said would explain why the only passenger was in the back seat of the vehicle.
Authorities have not released the names of anyone involved. SAPD is investigating what led to the crash.
Police say the intersection at Culebra Road and Ingram Road will be closed for at least two hours while they work to investigate and clear the crash scene.
This is a developing story. We will update as more information becomes available.
