LOS ANGELES — The Kansas City Chiefs are used to excelling and getting honored on the football field, but they’re not often mentioned in the musical world.
Now, East Texas native and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes along with tight end Travis Kelce and defensive tackle Chris Jones are nominated for an iHeart Music Award alongside country music artist Morgan Wallen for making a surprise appearance at Wallen’s show in August.
According to Billboard, the football players came on to the stage at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., on Aug. 2 when Wallen was performing as part of his One Night at a Time tour.
Video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, showed Mahomes, Kelce and Jones and Wallen walk through the backstage corridor with “WHISKEY WHISKEY” by Moneybagg Yo, featuring Wallen, playing.
Wallen and the football trio are nominated in the new category of favorite surprise guest, which will be voted on by fans. Kelce is also nominated in the same category for appearing at a Taylor Swift concert.
Voting began Jan. 22 and it will close on March 10 at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time). People can vote at iHeartRadio.com/awards.
The awards ceremony will held on Monday, March 17 in Los Angeles.
