Paws, play, retire: Military working dog Marco hangs up his badge at JBSA-Randolph

Thank you for your service, Marco! Enjoy every nap, snack and scratch behind the ears. You’ve earned it.

SAN ANTONIO — After seven years of sniffing out trouble and keeping people safe, one very good boy is officially off duty.

Military Working Dog Marco, a member of the 902nd Security Forces Squadron, recently retired at Joint Base San Antonio–Randolph, trading patrols and narcotics searches for belly rubs, treats and well-earned naps.

Marco was honored with a Certificate of Meritorious Service for his work as a patrol narcotic detector dog, a role that took him on missions supporting Department of Defense operations around the world.

And this pup didn’t just fetch tennis balls, he helped fetch justice.

Officials say one of Marco’s biggest career highlights was assisting in an international drug ring investigation that led to about $500,000 worth of drugs being taken off the streets.

Not bad for a dog whose favorite toy is probably still a squeaky one.

Handlers and fellow service members celebrated Marco’s retirement this week, thanking him for years of loyalty, sharp instincts and fearless service.

Now, his biggest assignment? Living the good life.

Thank you for your service, Marco! Enjoy every nap, snack and scratch behind the ears. You’ve earned it.
