Person in custody dies at Bexar County Jail, sheriff says

Police were called out to the BCSO Adult Detention Center just after 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

SAN ANTONIO — A person has reportedly died while in custody at the Bexar County Jail on Sunday afternoon, according to officials.

Officials say that the person was in custody at the Adult Detention Center on the 200 block of North Comal Street in the booking area at the time of their death.

The sheriff said it is department policy to strip search all people in custody at the jail.

Sheriff Salazr said he was with a detention officer who was asking him to remove his clothing as he checked for weapons. He first removed his shirt, then his pants, then apparently had a weapon hidden inside his baggy basketball shorts he was wearing, and used it to commit suicide.

We have a crew on the scene and are working to gather more information.

This is a developing story.
