Plane towed Houston’s Hobby Airport after pilot worried about safe landing

A pilot landed their plane on the runway after reporting possible mechanical issues.

HOUSTON — A plane landed on the runway at William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) in Houston on Friday afternoon after the pilot reported they were concerned about landing safely, according to a spokesperson for the Houston Airport System.

The pilot may have had a mechanical issue with the plane.

The incident on Runway 22 caused a ground stop for departures to Hobby Airport. The ground stop cited a “disabled aircraft,” saying airborne flights may need to stay in the air for up to 30 minutes.

The plane was going to be towed from the runway. Airport officials were inspecting the runway for safety.

No one was injured.

In a separate incident Thursday night, a driver in a passenger vehicle was able to access a secure area of George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Airport officials were investigating how the breach happened.

This is a developing story. We’ll add more details as we learn them.
