SAN ANTONIO — Planned Parenthood South Texas is offering free pap smears and HPV tests at all of its health centers on Tuesday.
The free services on June 24 are in observance of the Dobbs anniversary, marking the Supreme Court’s decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, triggering abortion bans across Texas and the nation.
Experts say pap smears and HPV tests are critical tools for detecting cervical cancer early—when it is most treatable.
But many people skip screenings due to cost, access or fear.
Hispanic/Latina women are 40% more likely to be diagnosed with cervical cancer than non-Hispanic white women and are less likely to be screened, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and the American Cancer Society.
