The department announced that Capt. Smitty Gonzales has died. Officials said Gonzales served the community for 15 years and was known as a mentor, friend and dedicated officer.
In a statement, the Pleasanton Police Department said Capt. Gonzales leaves behind a lasting impact on both his colleagues and the community he protected. The department is asking for thoughts and prayers for his family during this difficult time. A cause of death has not been released.
On Friday, the community gathered as the department escorted Capt. Gonzales back home to Hurley’s Funeral Home in Pleasanton.
