Police: 5 killed in wrong way US 281 crash in Marble Falls

Police said a truck was traveling north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 281 when it sideswiped a BMW hatchback and then collided head-on with a Hyundai hatchback.

MARBLE FALLS, Texas — Five people died in a three-vehicle crash Sunday evening in Marble Falls, authorities said.

Officers with the Marble Falls Police Department and deputies from the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office responded about 5 p.m. to the 3100 block of U.S. Highway 281.

Investigators said a black Nissan pickup driven by 80-year-old Antonio Lara, of Lago Vista, was traveling north in the southbound lanes when it sideswiped a white BMW hatchback and then collided head-on with a silver Hyundai hatchback.

All occupants of the Hyundai — Roxanne Mowrey, 50; Ron Dykes, 55; and two girls, ages 3 and 5 — were pronounced dead at the scene. Lara also died at the scene, police said.
