PROSPER, Texas — Two suspects are in custody, charged in connection with eight people “experiencing medical distress” who were hospitalized after a graduation party in North Texas over the weekend, police say.
Prosper police were called to help Prosper ISD police and the Prosper Fire Department at a private, overnight graduation party at a rental facility in the 1600 block of Coit Road shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, officials say.
Paramedics from Prosper, Celina and Frisco then treated multiple people “experiencing medical distress” and transported eight people to local hospitals, according to Prosper police. It’s unclear what caused their medical distress.
The two suspects, 17-year-old Kyle Muchineuta of Prosper and 18-year-old Cesar Omana of Frisco, where charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony.
Prosper ISD said the Graduation Celebration event for seniors, described on its website as an overnight lock-in that’s parent-organized and funded (not organized by the district) and drug and alcohol free, ended early following an “incident.”
“We wanted to relay information about the incident at Graduation Celebration. While we cannot provide specific details, several young adults experienced medical emergencies and required transport from the event. The Town of Prosper responded quickly, and Graduation Celebration ended early. All affected young adults are receiving appropriate medical care,” Prosper ISD shared in a statement to senior parents.
A statement shared with parents of graduating seniors on the Prosper ISD Graduation Celebration Facebook page acknowledged an “unforeseen situation” at the event.
“The vast majority of the evening was filled with positive energy and the excitement of our graduating class. However, we also experienced an unforeseen situation. The safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority,” the post continued.
