The man hasn’t been identified, and it’s unclear if the murder warrants he was wanted for were for San Antonio cases.
SAN ANTONIO — Law enforcement arriving at a far-west-side home to arrest a murder suspect retreated when they heard gunshots.
The call was made for backup and air support around 6 p.m., authorities said, before the source of the gunfire was discovered: Police believe the unidentified 18-year-old had killed himself. A sergeant with the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) said they were using a drone to investigate when they discovered the body inside a residence in the area of West Military and Loop 1604.
The young adult was wanted for two outstanding murder warrants as part of a U.S. Marshals investigation, police tell KENS 5. It’s unclear if those warrants were local, and police didn’t identify the victims.
Neighbors in the area said Monday evening’s scene was out of the ordinary, including a man who has lived on the street for 17 years.
“We saw the helicopters flying around, we saw some guys come out with ARs going that way, we were all trying to figure out what’s what,” Andrew Hawkins said. “This is a pretty safe neighborhood overall. We’re all kind of shaken up over it.”
No officers fired shot and no law enforcement were injured, SAPD says.
