Police catch man allegedly trying to enter elementary school without permission, authorities say

Police received information that a suspicious man was hanging around Highland Forest Elementary School around 1:30 p.m.

SAN ANTONIO — One man allegedly tried to enter a school without permission on the city’s southeast side Wednesday afternoon.

San Antonio and East Central ISD police received information that a “suspicious man” was hanging around Highland Forest Elementary School around 1:30 p.m.

Officials say officers tried to contact the man to see what was going on, but the man fled after he was confronted by officers.

Police were able to capture the man near La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant 2 with help from Texas DPS.

Authorities say there was no threat to students or the public.

The school doors were locked and secured at the time of the incident.

A message was sent to parents to alert them of the situation.

The message informed parents that the school was on a Hold Alert per their standard response protocol. The statement explained that a staff member noticed an unknown man near the campus but that campus police quickly took action and apprehended the man.

Officials say the hold was lifted around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

No other information was provided.
