Police chase ends at Killeen mall, multiple injuries reported

Killeen police said there was no active shooter and the area is secure.

KILLEEN, Texas — Killeen police said they were aware of “an incident at the Killeen mall” Saturday night and said “injuries are being reported.”

“The area is secure at this time,” Killeen police posted to their Facebook page. “We ask that you avoid the area as first responders conduct their investigation.”

News of the incident quickly spread on social media with some people claiming there was an active shooter. Killeen police confirmed that was not the case.

“There is no active shooter at the Killeen Mall,” Killeen police posted to Facebook.  “DPS, KFD and KPD are currently on scene investigating this incident.  The area is secure and we urge citizens to stay away from the Killeen Mall at this time.”  

A spokesperson for the police department said there had been a police chase that started in Belton and ended at the mall. 

Pictures on social media appeared to show a vehicle drove into what may have been the JC Penney entrance.

As of the time this story was written, it was unclear how many people were injured or how badly.
