POLICE: East Texas woman hospitalized for smoke inhalation, arrested for arson after setting boyfriend’s clothes on fire

TYLER, Texas — The Tyler Fire Marshal’s Office says a woman was arrested after being hospitalized for smoke inhalation following a reported arson Friday night.

According to authorities, on May 10, a fire was reported at an apartment complex located at 5207 Hollytree Dr.

An investigation into the blaze revealed the fire was set in the closet of the apartment unit. 

An occupant, identified as Talyson Hengel was taken to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Officials say Hengel admitted to starting the fire by igniting a pile of clothes belonging to her boyfriend in the corner of the closet.

After she was treated, she was arrested for arson and booked into the Smith County Jail on $100,000 bond.
