SAN ANTONIO — Police are investigating an incident at an elementary school on the northwest side of town early Thursday.
Officers responded to Glenoaks Elementary School on Newcome Drive near Babcock Road and Wurzbach Road just after 7 a.m. for reports of a body found.
Police say an 18-year-old man was discovered with a self-inflicted gun shot wound. His mother told police she noticed her son wasn’t at home around 3 a.m. and also noticed her handgun was missing.
Barry Perez, spokesman for Northside Independent School District, said there is an active investigation underway and police from NISD and SAPD are on the scene. The school is continuing operations, although movement is being restricted inside the building.
SAPD will be taking the lead on the investigation because the investigation is unrelated to students or staff at the school.
