Police say driver killed after he lost control, crashed into metal sign

Witnesses told police that the driver of a 2008 Lexus was speeding when they drifted onto the right shoulder and went into the grassy median, then crashed.

SAN ANTONIO — Police say a driver was killed after he drifted into a grassy median and slammed into a metal highway sign south of downtown.

San Antonio Police responded to U.S. Highway 90 West at I-37 South around 2 a.m. for reports of an accident.

Witnesses told police that the driver of a 2008 Lexus was speeding when they drifted onto the right shoulder and went into the grassy median, then crashed. Officers say the Lexus slid several feet and struck the base of a metal high science support structure. 

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The driver has not yet been identified.

No other injuries were reported.
