Police search for man who fatally shot ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in south San Antonio

Police are searching for the gunman who fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police said a love triangle turned deadly on the city’s south-side Wednesday evening.

Officers were dispatched at around 5:40 p.m. for a shooting-in-progress on the 3400 block of Nogalitos Street.

Police said an altercation occurred and a man shot his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in the stomach. The victim was taken to the hospital where officials confirmed he died from his injuries.

The suspect, who police say could be in his 20s, fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. The San Antonio Police Department said it received a lead that the suspect fled to another apartment complex near Ames Avenue.

Police staked out the scene for several hours before learning the suspect got away, according to officials.

A witness who said he was working near where the shooting occurred said he stepped in to try and help the victim. He told KENS 5 he recalls seeing a lot of blood.

“This lady came out of her car, frantic and looking for help. She said her boyfriend had been shot” said Gabriel Garcia. “I took off my shirt, gave it to her and told her to put pressure on the wound.”

Police say the suspect has not been located at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.

KENS 5 will update this story as more information becomes available.
