SAN ANTONIO — A man is dead after San Antonio police said he was shot when an altercation broke out between two people just west of downtown Saturday morning.
According to SAPD, officers were dispatched for shooting at the 900 block of San Fernando Street just before 8 a.m.
Upon arrival, police said the victim was located outside on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound.
Investigators say it appears the victim and the unknown suspect were having a verbal altercation outside when the suspect pulled a gun and shot the man.
The 35-year-old victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced dead.
Police said the suspect fled the scene on foot in an unknown location. It was believed the suspect may have been inside a neighboring apartment, according to police.
SWAT arrived at the scene and cleared the apartment. Officials said the suspect was not inside and unable to be located at this time.
