Police search for suspect in daring smash-and-grab at Ingram Park Mall jewelry kiosk

The store manager of Gold & Diamonds says the thief made off with tens of thousands of dollars in gold chains.

SAN ANTONIO — A smash-and-grab robbery at a jewelry kiosk inside Ingram Park Mall left glass shattered and store owners shaken Tuesday afternoon.

The store’s manager, who asked not to appear on camera, witnessed the robbery.

“It’s very sad. I’ve been in the business, we’ve been in the business, for 20 years,” said Danial. “We work very hard to get where we’re at today.”

According to San Antonio police, the incident happened just after noon. Investigators say the suspect shattered a glass display case and grabbed several pieces of jewelry before taking off.

Danial says it all happened in a matter of seconds.

“It happened like max five seconds. It was very quick — as I turned around, he was running already,” he said.

The thief reportedly made off with more than $20,000 worth of 10-carat gold chains.

Danial says this isn’t the first time crime has struck the mall.

“It’s very unfortunate. I think the safety and security, you know, kind of in this mall is very low,” he added.

KENS 5 reached out to Ingram Park Mall management to ask what additional safety measures may be put in place ahead of the busy holiday shopping season— but have not yet received a response.

“Hopefully we can replace the glass so we can reopen the showcase,” Danial said.

Police are still searching for the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact San Antonio police.
