The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene on the west side of town.
SAN ANTONIO — Police are searching for the driver who fled from the scene after hitting and killing a man on the west side of town Tuesday night.
San Antonio Police officers responded to the 7400 block of Highway 90 westbound around 8:38 p.m. for reports of a hit and run accident. Officials say several people who witnessed the crash called it in.
When police arrived at the scene, they were told by multiple witnesses that the man had been struck by a driver in a dark-colored sedan that did not stop.
A driver in another vehicle even stopped to help the victim after he was hit. Sadly, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
As for the driver, police believe they may have taken off in a dark-colored vehicle. At last check, that person had not been found.
A new study ranks Texas roads 13th most dangerous for pedestrians. According to Pre-settlement legal funding company High Rise Legal Funding, pedestrian deaths have increased over the last few years with October through December seeing the highest numbers.
In Texas, 18% of all fatalities are pedestrians, compared to the national U.S. figure of 17%. Their study found most of these deaths are happening after dark.
With that in mind, please be careful on the roads.
This is a developing story.
