Police searching for missing Victoria woman who’s ‘associate’ reportedly took his own life when detectives tried to interview him

Authorities said Stevenson had an “associate” who would drive her around the area and when detectives tried to interview him, he took his own life.

VICTORIA, Texas — The Victoria Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing woman last seen on Nov. 19.

The missing woman is identified as Amanda Stevenson, 20. She is reportedly 5’1″, weighs approximately 125 pounds and was last seen in a gray hooded sweatshirt, sweatpants and black shoes.

VPD received a phone call from Stevenson’s mother on Nov. 21 at 10:30 p.m. saying that she was missing.

Since then, the department has been working endlessly to find her as they have upgraded this case to critical after the additional evidence was provided.

Stevenson’s cell phone was reportedly found locked without a known password and police said it was determined early on that Stevenson has a “known associate” who would drive her around the area. The “associate” was identified and found to have also worked for a ride-share service.

Authorities said detectives initially interviewed the man to try and get information on Stevenson’s location. When they tried to reinterview him, they conducted a traffic stop on his vehicle and during that traffic stop, the man reportedly took his own life.

The Texas Rangers are handling that case and the vehicle is now in police custody.

Authorities have thoroughly searched areas the associate frequently visited and over 20 members of the department have searched a property several times near the city of Yoakum with scent-sensitive dogs and drones.

The department said advanced technological efforts are being conducted behind the scenes but some of their efforts are being halted by the “lack of passwords and are taking time to obtain information.”

VPD has assigned a captain to provide updates to Stevenson’s mother as more information comes in.

Victoria police are asking the public to avoid speculation on this case in hopes of not creating a false narrative.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact Victoria Crime Stoppers at 361-572-4200.

This is an ongoing investigation and KENS 5 will update this story as more information becomes available.
