Officers were alerted by a woman who was making a deposit at the ATM outside of the bank.
The search is on for the person who broke into a bank on the northwest side of San Antonio and then lit it on fire.
Officers were actually tipped off about the incident thanks to a woman who happened to be there at the right time.
That witness was making a deposit at Frost Bank on Vance Jackson Road at De Zavala Road just before 1 a.m. when she saw someone inside the bank and a fire. Police say the woman called 911 right away and then stayed at the scene to wait for the officers.
After going through the security footage, investigators say the man broke into a side door of the bank using a crowbar.
Once inside, police say the man smashed cameras on the walls and poured gas on the information desk, setting it on fire and then ran off.
Fire officials tell us there was some smoke damage to the building.
Police have not said if the man was able to get away with any money and he’s still on the run.
If you know anything about who that suspect might be, you are asked to call San Antonio police.
