Police seek another suspect in death of Brewer Academy student Simon Cuevas, Jr,

Police release photo of suspect Andrew Cantu, 17, in Simon Cuevas’ murder, seeking public help.

Police released a photo of another suspect in the death of Brewer Academy student Simon Cuevas back in April.

The 14-year-old was brutally murdered when he was beaten and shot as he walked home from school April 16, 2025.

Two teenage brothers, age 14 and 16, were arrested and charged with capital murder back in August. The two are being accused of attacking Simon, along with 18-year-old Fernando Flores who faces a capital murder charge in the adult system. Police had been looking for 20-year-old Caesar Tijerina in connection to the case, but he committed suicide before being taken into custody by police.

Friday, police said they are now looking for Andrew Cantu, 17, who is wanted for Capital Murder in connection with Cuevas’ death.

If you know about his whereabouts, contact SAPD Homicide at (210) 207-2152.

The murder case has been a topic of high interest as police shared video evidence of a group of young men targeting the victim in west San Antonio earlier this year.

Police said Simon was surrounded and beaten to the ground. When he was essentially defenseless, one member of the group took out a gun and shot him.

A monthslong manhunt finally resulted in arrests in August after the murder was the subject of a high-profile Crime Stoppers reward offer.
