Police shoot, kill gunman who asked officers, ‘Ready to die?’

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi Police have confirmed with 3NEWS that the suspect shot during Monday night’s disturbance at the Four Winds Apartments has been pronounced dead.

Corpus Christi Police and SWAT responded to the scene at the Four Winds Apartments on Brett Street.

Lt. Eryca Gonzalez said that when officers responded around 9:40 p.m. a man opened the door and asked if the officers were “ready to die?”

According to Chief Mike Markle, the man eventually came out with an AR style assault weapon and officers fired at him. The man was hit and went back into the apartment, closing the door.

The man did not fire his weapon at the officers.

At this time no officers have been reported injured, CCPD officials said.

Residents from nearby apartments have been temporarily evacuated from their homes.
