Original Story:
San Antonio police are involved in a standoff with a shooting suspect after he barricaded himself inside a South Side home late Thursday night.
The standoff began around 9:45 p.m. at a home on Humboldt Street, not far from both Interstate 35 and West Southcross.
According to police, officers went to the shooting suspects’ home and are currently trying to get him to come out of the house. He has refused to do so.
Police say the man was involved in a shooting that killed a woman following an argument with another man at a South Side taco stand. As one of the men was leaving and getting into his Jeep to drive off the suspect fired a gunshot into the window, striking a female passenger in the chest.
SAPD said the man in the Jeep drove to a nearby gas station, where he called for help. The suspect fled in his own vehicle. SAPD said it is unclear as to exactly how the two men knew each other. The woman killed has not been identified, but is said to be in her mid 20. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Negotiators are on scene at the house trying to communicate with the suspect. SWAT is present as well as are officers in a police mobile command center.
SAPD said they are presently using a drone because the Eagle helicopter has been grounded due to the wet weather.
Authorities have been negotiating with the person by loudspeaker for several hours. According to police, it is still an active scene.
Police say at this time they are only releasing preliminary information as the standoff is ongoing. KSAT will update the story as more information becomes available.
