20-year-old Caesar Tijerina is wanted for capital murder in connection to the murder of 14-year-old Simon Cuevas.

SAN ANTONIO — Laredo police have confirmed that a 20-year-old suspect wanted in connection to the murder of a San Antonio teen shot himself in Laredo early Friday morning.

14-year-old Simon Cuevas III was walking home from Brewer Academy in the area of South Elmendorf and Merida on April 16. According to records, surveillance footage revealed to investigators that a group of five students walking home from Brewer Academy got into an altercation and teamed up on a Cuevas while following him as he left school. He was shot and killed by multiple suspects.

Four months later, 18-year-old Fernando Flores was arrested. He is believed to have pulled the trigger, according to an arrest affidavit; he’s now facing a charge of capital murder.

There were two more suspects wanted in connection to the killing: one teenager who will not be named and 20-year-old Caesar Tijerina.

At about 4 a.m. Friday, Laredo police responded to the 5000 block of Palmito Drive for an attempted suicide call. They were able to locate Tijerina with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. That’s when police realized he had a pending arrest warrant for capital murder.

He has been taken to a San Antonio hospital where his condition is currently unclear.

KENS 5 is working to confirm more information about this case as of Friday afternoon.
