Political leaders looking ahead on how to prevent more disastrous flooding in Hill Country

Senator Ted Cruz brought up the idea on how we can improve emergency response times and what can be most effective to accomplish this.

KERR COUNTY, Texas — Political leaders across Texas and the nation have been in and out of Kerrville providing resources and support for the Hill Country after last week’s flooding.

Some leaders are now looking ahead on how to prevent future related disasters, and have said their first priority is to help the Hill Country rebuild and recover.

Their next step is looking at what can be done better to prevent this type of catastrophe.

Senator Ted Cruz brought up the idea on how we can improve emergency response times and what can be most effective to accomplish this.

We asked him about the possibility of a siren system along the Hill Country river bank and he says it can be a possibility but wants to review the entire situation before making a move.

“Well, listen, as I said, that’s that’s going to entail looking to what exactly transpired and taking time based on the actual evidence of what happened to say, what would be more effective,” said Sen. Ted Cruz. “I’m confident that conversation will play out in the weeks and months ahead.”

Cruz says he was able to work with trump to get national resources and declare the funding a natural disaster.

For our leaders at home, State Rep. Wes Virdell representing the Hill Country says he’s going to continue to push for state funding at the capital and wants to improve cell service in the area.

House Bill 13 was a recent bill Virdell voted against relating to communication and wildfires but says he wants full transparency to know where our money is going to make sure the right thing is done.

“House Bill 13, you know, had no transparency for how government money could have been allocated,” said Rep. Wes Virdell. “And it was actually more of a over a ten-year period. It I think it would have been a very ineffective bill and it didn’t have transparency that the people of Texas deserve to have with any government agency.”

Both Virdell and Cruz are sending their thoughts and prayers to every family impacted by last week’s flooding.

They say by working together, Texas can come back stronger.
