Poll shows San Antonio not overwhelmingly in favor of ‘Project Marvel’; Registration for Fiesta de Los Spurs run is open

Project Marvel includes plans for a new Spurs downtown arena.

SAN ANTONIO — According to a University of Texas at San Antonio poll, San Antonians are not overwhelmingly in favor of “Project Marvel,” which includes a potential new San Antonio Spurs arena.

The poll shows that 41% of respondents (eligible Bexar County voters surveyed) favor the city moving forward with the project, while 36% do not.

Project Marvel includes the construction of a $1 billion arena for the Spurs, a costly expansion of the surrounding buildings, and a facelift for the Alamodome.

Twenty percent of the respondents also feel unsure about the project, which will likely be the target of both supporters and opponents of Project Marvel once it is put to a public vote.
