Early voting begins Tuesday with major races on the ballot, including Bexar County judge and U.S. Senate matchups.
SAN ANTONIO — The polls open at 8 a.m. Tuesday, and voters across Bexar County will have a chance to weigh in on several major races that could shape San Antonio, Texas, and the country.
At the local level, one of the biggest contests is the race for Bexar County Judge.
Voters will decide whether to keep incumbent Peter Sakai in office or choose former San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg.
Sakai has centered his campaign on what he calls a “back-to-basics” approach, prioritizing issues like health care access, food insecurity, and housing.
Nirenberg, meanwhile, has emphasized regional collaboration among cities across Bexar County, along with reforms to the criminal justice system and efforts to maximize resources while saving taxpayer dollars.
On the state and national level, voters will also help determine who will represent each party in the race for the U.S. Senate.
On the Democratic side, the primary runoff features Jasmine Crockett and James Talarico, both focusing heavily on affordability and the rising cost of living.
Crockett has called for clearer pathways to legal status and citizenship, as well as faster asylum processing.
Talarico has proposed changes in how immigration enforcement operates in communities, aiming to balance security concerns with social impacts.
On the Republican side, voters will choose between Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Senator John Cornyn.
Paxton has campaigned on taking more aggressive legal action related to immigration, while Cornyn has maintained a more traditional conservative approach.
The two candidates have also differed on foreign policy, with Paxton pushing an “America First” mindset and Cornyn supporting a continued U.S. leadership role in global affairs.
Polls open at 8 a.m., and early voting runs through February 27.
