Popovich gets his own bobble head; Spurs’ RC Buford among top 40 leaders in sports

Gregg Popovich will be celebrated with a special bobblehead giveaway at the Air Force Academy.

SAN ANTONIO — Former San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is getting his own bobblehead.

Pop’s alma mater, the Air Force Academy, will honor him with “Popovich Bobblehead Day” on February 21 against UNLV. The figure will feature him in an Air Force Academy jacket, with the box showing him in his Air Force basketball uniform.

However, the bobblehead will only be given to the first 1,000 fans who arrive for the game.

You can likely assume these will hit the secondary market and be auctioned off for ridiculous prices. Will Spurs fans splurge and get one?

And speaking of Pop, he recently made an appearance at an Austin Spurs game, looking in good spirits, and took time to meet young fans and snap photos.

SPURS’ BUFORD AMONG THE TOP-40 SPORTS LEADERS

The Athletic recently shared its top-40 sports leaders, and Spurs’ RC Buford made the list.

The Spurs CEO ranked No. 27 overall, ahead of notable figures such as Boston’s Joe Mazzulla and Buffalo’s Josh Allen.

This is a testament to Buford, who, as the General Manager, assembled championship-quality teams and was ahead of the curve when it came to scouting outside the U.S.A.

Now, as the franchise’s CEO, he has been at the forefront of expanding the Spurs’ footprint across South Texas up into Austin, and he did his part in the Project Marvel campaign to help bring the Spurs to downtown San Antonio with a new arena in the upcoming years.

Also making the list are former Spurs Becky Hammond (No. 23), former Spurs guard Steve Kerr (No. 1), and former Spurs Assistant GM Sam Presti (No. 6).
