SAN ANTONIO — Former San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich recently traveled to Cedar Park, TX, to show his support for the G League’s Austin Spurs.
The 5-time NBA championship coach made a rare public appearance and even took time to greet young fans and snap photos with them. He was seen using a walking cane and being assisted as he strolled on the court.
Popovich, 76, retired from coaching last year and is now the Spurs’ president of basketball operations. He stepped away from the sidelines following health issues, including a stroke in 2024.
He will also be celebrated at his alma mater, the Air Force Academy, with a “Popovich Bobblehead Night.”
AUSTIN SPURS COMPLETE TRADE WITH CLIPPERS
The Austin Spurs announced a trade with the San Diego Clippers, acquiring a first-round draft pick in the 2027 NBA G League Draft in exchange for the rights to return player Cam Reddish.
Austin is coming off a 102-91 win over the Valley and is currently 8-5.
Also, Spurs two-way guard David Jones Garcia will represent Austin as one of seven NBA G League players competing in the Castrol Rising Stars Game at NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles. In nine regular-season games with Austin, Jones Garcia leads the league in scoring at 26.8 points per game as of Jan. 25.
