CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Port Aransas community came together Saturday to honor the life of 17-year-old Byron Davis, a student at Port Aransas High School who died when his pickup truck veered off Cotter Avenue near Tarrant Street and crashed into a building.
Dozens of friends, classmates, and community members gathered outside the high school to remember Byron’s life and the lasting impact he had on those around him.
“Our community looks out for each other,” said Port Aransas High School graduate Kali Moore. “Some of these people, whether we’ve known him his whole life or you just moved here this year, everybody is willing to come together and support one another, especially during hard times like this.”
Friends described Byron as someone who brought joy to every room he entered, remembering his positive energy and fun-loving spirit.
“The entirety of the time that I’ve known him, he’s always been kinda kiddish and a little bit of a jokester,” said friend of Davis’ Jacob Bowler. “You throw a punch and he’d throw it back twice as hard – but he loved having fun. That’s how me and my closest friends remember him, just a fun guy.”
This marks the third traffic-related death in the Port Aransas area in just over a month.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
