SAN ANTONIO — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
This week’s Forgotten Friend is Posie, a roughly 3-year-old Terrier blend who was found hanging out in the Deco District of San Antonio and brought to the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services back in mid-May.
“She has been with us more than 120 days,” said Lisa Norwood, Public Relations Manager at ACS. “Much of that has been spent with our Trainers who have brought her into their office to open up a kennel for an at-risk pet and to give her more time to find a new home.”
When Posie first arrived at ACS, she had a slight cough and some dermatitis, but was treated and now is feeling good. She doesn’t have any special needs.
“Posie is an active girl but prefers to be your main focus,” said ACS staff. “Older children may be okay if they can respect her boundaries.”
Shelter staff believe that she probably had a family of her own at one time, before being abandoned or maybe getting lost near a grocery store.
Posie is crate-trained and potty-trained, and definitely has already been housebroken.
She does get along with other dogs and has made some dog friends, but would really thrive as the only dog in your household.
Posie loves to run around and play with toys. She enjoys a good puzzle and has never met a treat she didn’t want.
She loves pup cups filled with whipped cream and peanut butter treats.
“Posie loves the “scritches” on her bum and will willingly let both men and women give her love,” said ACS staff.
She is current on all of her vaccinations and parasite preventions, and has already been spayed.
“Posie has been something of an “ambassa-dog” for ACS, and has even done several people training classes with her trainer friends and attended a “Sit. Stay. Learn!” event at the San Antonio Public Library,” said ACS.

VOLUNTEER
If you have some extra time, ACS could always use some extra hands to help care for the animals. They are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help them:
- provide exceptional care to the pets in our care.
- serve our community.
Volunteers must be able to commit to at least six hours a month for at least three months. “Your consistent involvement is crucial, as our volunteers play a vital role in supporting our staff and helping pets find their forever homes,” said ACS.

Remember when you adopt a shelter pet, you save two lives… the one you bring home with you and the one that now will be saved because the shelter has more room.
