Prescribed burns scheduled at Camp Bullis through Feb. 22

Joint Base San Antonio will conduct prescribed burns at Camp Bullis Feb. 9–22 to reduce wildfire risk, and nearby residents may notice smoke.

SAN ANTONIO — Joint Base San Antonio officials say prescribed burns are planned at JBSA-Camp Bullis starting Feb. 9 and continuing through Feb. 22, as weather conditions allow.

The burns will be conducted by the base’s Natural Resources Office, Fire and Emergency Services, and the Air Force Wildland Fire Branch.

Residents near Camp Bullis may see or smell smoke during the burn operations.

Officials say the controlled burns are intended to reduce fuel loads such as dead vegetation and thick brush, helping lower the risk of future wildfires.

Fire crews will coordinate with local departments and monitor weather conditions daily to ensure the burns remain safe and fully contained.

Camp Bullis covers more than 27,000 acres of training ranges and wildlands on San Antonio’s north side.
