President Biden cancels upcoming trip to Austin, White House says

AUSTIN, Texas — President Joe Biden’s planned visit to Austin Monday has been cancelled, the White House said Sunday.

The president’s visit was to the mark the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act at the LBJ Presidential Library.

Biden has spend the last day focusing on efforts to investigating the attempted assasination of former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, PA Saturday. A rally attendee and the gunman were killed after shots rang out at the rally. President Trump was reportedly hit by a bullet to the ear, and video from the rally showed blood on his ear and face as he was escorted away by Secret Service members. He was treated at a hospital and released late Saturday night.

Biden’s visit was supposed to come on the same day the Republican National Convention starts in Milwaukee. They will likely renominate Trump as their party’s presidential candidate. The former president has not yet named a running mate and was expected to over the weekend before the deadly shooting in Butler, PA.
