Protestors rally against Trump in downtown SA, Kerrville as part of nationwide movement

The protest was organized by 50501, a grassroots organization that began on social media to organize 50 protests in 50 states in one day.

SAN ANTONIO — On Saturday, hundreds took to the streets of downtown San Antonio to protest decisions made by the Trump administration.

In San Antonio, protestors held signs calling on changes to the rising food costs, federal firings, immigration, gun control, reproductive healthcare, voting rights and what many are calling the “billionaire takeover.”

“We’re really upset with the state of our country right now. I think we care more about protecting capitalist agenda as opposed to protecting our kids,” said Tedi Mcvea, who brought her kids to the protest. “I’m very concerned about Texas, specifically our governments that are very bought out by private interests. I want to see more voices available and pushing forward to gain some momentum and changing Texas to purple.”

The protest was organized by 50501, a grassroots organization that began on social media to organize 50 protests in 50 states in one day. Similar protests happened in the nation’s capital and there was even one in Kerrville that brought around 200 people.

“We stand for nonviolence. We stand for inclusion and we stand against genocide,” said Alex Svehla, protest organizer. “We are trying to bring a little bit of action to this. We’re trying to let people know they can vote, how to register to vote, how do you contact a representative, etc.”
